Obie Companies is thrilled to have won the Oregon Daily Journal of Commerce’s TopProjects Award for the Best Multifamily and Mixed-Use Project in 2022.
Now in its 25th year, TopProjects is the premier recognition program for the region’s built environment – honoring the best building and construction projects in the Pacific Northwest.
The Eugene Market District took the #1 spot, with the editors particularly impressed by the project’s ability to not only provide residential, hotel, office, and mixed-use retail accommodations but also to serve as a community destination. “By unifying this diverse set of uses, the Market District highlights Eugene’s creative, collaborative community environment,” the judges continued.
The 5th Street Market was expanded to include three new buildings: a seven-story apartment building, a seven-story luxury hotel, and a three-story mixed-use office/retail building. An outdoor canopy covering more than 150 feet connects the spaces together.
The judges commented on the complexity of the project, particularly the timing and construction challenges related to Covid and the lagging supply chain. They praised the project team for erecting all three buildings simultaneously, which required careful planning and critical sequencing.
